Joe,
This email will serve as an update on the status and repair of your systems sent in.
Currently I have listed the following machines sent in for repair by you:
Apple iMac G5 ALS Ambient Light with the serialization of W8410RKWRW
Now, with the Apple iMac G5 ALS Ambient Light with the serialization of W8410RKWRW has been evaluated, repaired, and is ready for return. The system is labeled A1076-M9845LL-White-ALS, 661-3613, and 820-1747. The system required a reflow on the ATI Radeon, Intel SL8YB, and Intel SL8Z2 chipsets.
No power adapter was found within the box. The system alone was received.
A hard drive was found within your system, but in this case, you will need to follow the directions below to finalize a successful repair.
You also need to update the video drivers from Intel.com, ATI.com, or Nvidia.com and the BIOS from HP or Dell if one is to be applied once the system is repaired. Please advise your end user to purchase a cooling pad to help insure the removal of heat from the system.
If you need more help in explaining these areas to your end user, please visit http://applelogicboardrepairservice.com/category/helpful-hints/
Pictures of the repair can be viewed at http://applelogicboardrepairservice.com/img
Your system was shipped without a prepaid Fedex label or account for return shipping. The system will be shipped back using Fedex COD. The system was shipped back to Joe Warnett of Interactive Automation.
Below is a video detailing the reflow step by step:

Great little video, thanks for posting this up. I’m currently troubleshooting an iMac 7,1 (2007 model), with the “Power On, no chime, no boot” problem, After testing various other components and modules, it appears to be the Northbridge chip (on this model, being an Intel SLA5U) that is the problem. After a quick DIY reflow, the machine works again for many hours, but seems to need a proper reballing. Hope this helps others. ^_^

@forestmanify Thank you for posting. We appreciate all questions and comments and votes. We perform reballing, but if the chipset is reflowed with IR instead of hot air then the likelyhood the system will fail is slim. How are you reflowing your system, by hot air or IR?

very helpful video.. Did you reflow the whole board or just the ati gpu and vram?
If you heat the whole board, can you share what temperature did you use for 5 to 10 minutes? I would like to try the same thing for my imac G5..

@doanhtran Thank you for commenting. We appreciate that very much. Now, we place the whole unit on the preheat table at 145 degrees and then reflow the GPU and VRAM with the IR overhead unit at 235 degrees. We do that with shielding at the component level to keep the other components from overheating or being heated to begin with in the first place.
